Alex P. Gath
Alex P. Gath was born and bred in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. In 1984 he joined a nationally renowned firm of architects in Sheffield, principally assisting the design team leaders preparing schemes for large retail and mixed use developments in and around Sheffield, West Yorkshire and North Derbyshire.
In 1987 Alex discovered the South Hams via The Purbeck in Dorset, fell in love with the area and decided that as an obsessive fisherman, the sea just edged the rugged beauty of the Peak District National Park. Working for an established local architectural practice for 12 years allowed him to develop a respect for and a thorough informed understanding of traditional materials and the skills required, with vernacular architecture and the conversion of farm and industrial buildings, a specific passion.
Alex brings an understanding of how buildings need to sensitively relate to the landscape, their context and settings for individuals, SME’s and, of course, the farming community that is the lifeblood of this rural area.
The approach to all commissions is firmly based on established and enjoyable working relationships with all contributors especially the Local Authorities in the area, in an effort to achieve ‘good quality design’ for all concerned, with the objective of preserving and enhancing our precious surroundings.
Alex lives in Kingsbridge with his two daughters and partner Amanda, amongst friends, clients and colleagues who are often a combination of all three and wouldn’t change anything for the world as long as he can slip out occasionally for a hectic afternoons bass fishing
